Who was talking this afternoon?

It was at the IARD 2004 Conference, Saas Fee, Switzerland, June 12-19 2004.
One of the speaker was prof. Bei-Lok Hu and the first day in the afternoon he delivered
his second talk.  The same evening I was sitting at the dinner  with two participant in a
pleasant restaurant.
    One of them asked me: "Who was talking this afternoon?"
    I replied: "Hu was talking this afternoon." (I pronounced 'Hu' as 'who".)
    He said: "Yes, who was talking this afternoon?"
    I replied: "Hu was talking this afternoon."
    He asked: "So who was talking this afternoon?
    I replied:  "Yes, Hu was talking this afternoon."

And so on, until I finally explained them the point. The story  is quite analogous
to a joke  that was told to me by my daughter Katja.
