First circular

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this workshop is to give the participants an opportunity to concentrate on topics of common interest and to enable focused, intense discussions and critical confrontation of open problems in a friendly atmosphere.

The first day we shall make a survey of open problems to be discussed during the Workshop. On successive days, two or three 40-minute talks related to the "Menue of the day" will be given in the morning session, followed by lunch and afternoon discussions and elaborations, as well as by work in small(er) groups.

LOCATION:

Lake Bled is a beautiful holliday resort with opportunity for short walks, long hikes, swimming etc., to relax between the discussions. The Workshop will take place in Villa Plemelj, bequeathed to the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers by the renowned Slovenian mathematician Josip Plemelj. The Villa can accomodate up to 16 people (sharing double bedrooms with private bathrooms and kitchen corners). It has a small lecture room for at most 20 people, and a garden. It is an ideal place for meditations and discussion for a small group of enthusiasts.

COST:

We get very little subsidee for the Workshop. We shall try, however, to keep the cost low. The "Conference fee" will be about 600 German marks and it will cover accomodation, breakfast, coffee, dinner and some social activities for 7 days and 7 nights. [It will be about 460 German marks for those sharing a double room].

TRAVEL:

Bled is easily reached by road (motorway from Austria - Karawankentunnel, or Italy-Trieste-Ljubljana), by air (Ljubljana Airport is 30 km from Bled), by rail (line Salzburg-Villach-Lesce/Bled-Ljubljana) and by bus from Ljubljana. We shal do our best to pick up the participants at the Airport and at the Bled Railway station. Detailed travel information is given on the web-page of the workshop, (see below).

PROPOSED TOPICS:

(Selection will be performed after we get your response)

  • The structure of constituent quarks and of baryons,
  • The effective interaction between constituent quarks,
  • Dimesons, dibaryons, pentaquarks,
  • Baryon-baryon and meson-meson effective interaction,
  • Acurate few-body calculations (including relativity ???),
  • Decaying states,
  • Electromagnetic reactions on hadrons,
  • The role of confinement for the low-lying baryon spectrum ???,

TRADITION:

The encouragement for MINI-WORKSHOPS at Bled came from the fruitful and friendly encounter at the Workshop at Bled/Ljubljana in 1987 (Mesonic Degrees of Freedom in Hadrons).

The success of the MINI-WORKSHOP BLED 1999: HADRONS AS SOLITONS, stimulates us to organize a Workshop of a similar character every year.
